Phone maker Xiaomi is today launching in Thailand, resuming the Chinese company’s slow and patchy global expansion.

Thailand, with its population of 69 million, saw 22 million smartphone sales in 2016, rising this year to an anticipated 25 million.

Xiaomi’s late entry into Thailand comes as other Chinese brands – namely Huawei and Oppo – have already made a big impact on the Southeast Asian nation as they hunt down market leader Samsung.

Xiaomi will sell two of its Android-based phones in Thailand – the new Mi6 and the ageing Redmi Note 4 – through stores and on Lazada.
