4 startups going to Thailand that caught our eye

Startup Thailand isn’t for another few weeks, but it’s already got a message: scale up, Asia.

Thailand’s Ministry of Science and Technology has launched the annual startup event, which is taking place in five major cities: Chonburi, Songkhla, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, and finally Bangkok. The theme “Startup Thailand, Scale up Asia” aims to emphasize the country’s enthusiasm to progress in science, technology, and innovation – and the eagerness of its startups to expand their business to other countries in Asia.

The event is open to curious investors, founders, startups, students, and aspiring entrepreneurs. Here are a few of the startups that have already signed up and have caught our attention for their uniqueness and scalability.

1. JuiceInnov8

Particles that magically replace the sugar in your juice with sweet, sugar-free alternatives? It’s not magic – it’s science. Biotechnology company JuiceInnov8 gathers microbes from multiple sources and seeks to create juices with 30 percent less sugar. Its sugar reduction tech SugarDrop, adapted from wine and beer production, can drop sugar levels without adding water.

The startup was selected as a member of San Francisco-based food and agricultural accelerator Terra in April. It also won a CU Innovation Hub pitching competition this year.

2. QueQ

Mobile app QueQ tries to do away with lines and unnecessary waiting by bringing the queue to smartphones.

The app allows people to view the queue at a location around them – a mall, for example. To wait in the queue, users simply request a number from the app and can wait for their turn via smartphone instead of sitting in a waiting room. Numbers can be booked two kilometers away from the destination. Smartphone notifications alert users when they’re coming up in the queue.

QueQ has over 600,000 active users and covers hospitals, banks, and other service providers.

3. Flow Account

Fintech startup Flow Account seeks to lend small businesses a hand in accounting. The cloud-based system, meant primarily for small businesses, helps in the creation of invoices, receipts, and financial reports. Users can open documents, view reports, and manage their businesses.

4. ZipEvent

Event junkies of Asia, rejoice: ZipEvent was made for you. The mobile app helps you find events and expos in your area. Tell it what kinds of happenings you want to see, and it will give you the lowdown on events, booths, promotions, and other agendas.

For event planners, the app helps keep information together in one place, make quick updates to meeting agendas, engage with attendees through in-app interactions, and get feedback and analysis through app-distributed surveys. A record of those who attended the event with the app can help keep contact after the hoopla is over.
