  • The Financial Times has made an interactive calculator that helps you figure out which parts of your job can be automated.
  • The calculator is based on McKinsey Global Institute’s data on 820 occupations, their 2,000 unique constituent activities, and a combination of 18 capabilities needed to perform each activity. For example, a retail salesperson’s job includes ‘greeting customers’, ‘demonstrating product features,’ and so on. ‘Greeting customers’ requires ‘sensory perception,’ ‘natural language generation,’ and so on.

  • How much of the work can be automated varies from occupation to occupation. Meat packers, plastering masons, and ophthalmic technicians can be fully automated, the calculator shows. Historians, clergy, and mining roof bolters can’t be automated at all as of now.
