On-demand transportation company Grab, which operates across Southeast Asia, just rolled out an addition to its cashless payment system, GrabPay.
GrabPay just added a bunch of new ways to top up credit.
Users can now top up their credit balance inside the app through various channels: Via credit card, ATMs, internet banking, or through the cashier system at convenience store chain Alfamart.
GrabPay credits can then be used for cashless payment for any service ordered through the app, such as a car ride or food delivery.
Previously, Grab’s cashless payment had to be linked to a credit card.
The new system is already available in Indonesia and Singapore, with other Southeast Asian countries following soon, Grab said in a statement.
Grab is following on the heels of its major rival in Indonesia, Go-Jek, with this mover. The latter launched its own payment system Go-Pay several months ago and announced a significant uptick in adoption when the firm made it much easier for users to top up their credit balance through Go-Jek drivers.
Though Grab now has more channels for users to convert cash to GrabPay credit than Go-Jek, it looks like it’s not offering payment through its drivers at this point.
