Ecommerce is, of late, moving towards more niche markets. Parents can now indulge themselves in stores dedicated to products for their children, just like they would when purchasing clothes or electronics.
Here’s a list of several ecommerce sites that can help moms find what their babies need:
Orami
Orami is the result of two startups – Moxy and Bilna – merging. Moxy was a lifestyle website based in Thailand that sold products made for women. Bilna sold mom and baby products.
Orami has over 8,600 products of various brands for moms, babies and children. Orami also has children’s toys – selling more than 3,800 on its website. What’s more, the site offers discounts and special offers aplenty to attract more customers.
The website provides articles about parenting, career advice, healthy recipes, and more in a column called “Inspiration”.
To ease payment, Orami collaborates with a handful of banks. You can transfer your payment via ATMs, mobile banking, or cash on delivery (no debit or credit cards are accepted on the last method).
Tororo
Established by former Kaskus CEO Ken Dean Lawadinata in 2013, this ecommerce site has a logo of a chubby chicken – mimicking the Japanese anime character Totoro. Tororo focuses on fulfilling the needs of moms and their newborn babies – from selling pillows for pregnant future moms to creams handling stretch-marks.
Apart from the selection of products, payments, and special discounts, Tororo provides same-day shipping to customers in the Jakarta metro area whenpayment is confirmed before 8 AM. Shipping takes an extra day if payment confirmation exceeds 8 AM. Same-day shipping is free for customers who shop more than US$8.50 and costs another US$0.85 for anything under.
Tororo also provides gift sets to help you wrap products for gifting. The gift sets vary in price, starting as low as US$0.50.
Mothercare Indonesia
Mothercare Indonesia is a well-known name. The company has been prominent in Indonesia since 2005, setting up shop in Mall Taman Anggrek, Jakarta.
Mothercare is now online with an ecommerce site.
Mothercare provides a similar selection to other baby-focused ecommerce venues. What sets it apart is its exclusive rights to sell Early Learning Center toys: this is a famous brand of high-end toys designed as study aids for children between ages 0 and 6.
Mothercare provides clear descriptions for each product. This eases potential customers to decide before purchasing.
Mothercare also offers size charts for pregnant moms and infants’ apparel, based respectively on pregnancy trimester and age of the infant. Furthermore, Mothercare provides complimentary furniture assembly and gift-wrapping services; it’s like the whole package for moms!
Mamaway
Mamaway is different. This startup focuses on pregnant moms-to-be and nursing moms. When you access the site, you will be greeted by three different pages: Mamapedia, Online Shopping and Mama Club.
Mamapedia is an encyclopedia for pregnant moms-to-be and nursing moms. Here you will find information ranging from pregnancy, parenting, and nutrition to a video tutorial on how to carry your newborn.
The online shop, true to its name, is a page where you can find products for moms and infants, including corsets, maternity pants, and pacifiers. Mamaway provides a sizing chart with measurement methods. First-time members get a US$3.50 voucher.
The interesting part here is the Mama Club: this part of Mamaway is a place for mothers to share pregnancy stories and experiences with nursing, such as tips on maternity wear and how to increase the quality of breast milk.
The Australian ecommerce brand has expanded to other countries like Taiwan, China, Russia, and the United States.
Babyzania
Babyzania was established in February 2013 and has since reached more than 100,000 Indonesian customers; it offers over 10,000 products across baby food, toys, maternity wear, and others.
Shipping is free when you live around the Jakarta metro area and spend over US$22.50, but only if the order weighs less than 10kgs.
The ecommerce site offers payments online, via ATM transfers, or cash on delivery.
Prelo
Prelo – previously Kleora – is a marketplace targeting a female audience, recently turned secondhand shop for maternity needs.
Drawing its name from “pre-loved” items, Prelo sells various products: books, children’s toys, baby care items, to maternity wear. These products range from less than a dollar to US$900.
You can also get pre-used items for a lower price depending on their condition: brand new (95 to 100 percent usable), excellent (85 to 95 percent), good (70 to 85 percent), and fair (less than 70 percent).
Prelo is a good option for mothers who want to make extra money off their old baby stuff and mothers looking for more affordable options for maternity needs.
Popular marketplaces
Although the top ecommerce marketplaces don’t focus on maternity needs, research done by Tech In Asia still shows that you can find more affordable options to maternity items in larger marketplaces, up to a US$5 difference. This excludes Lazada, MatahariMall, and BliBli, which might offer a different set of prices.
These marketplaces also offer credit card options from a larger selection of banks and credit card loans not offered by maternity ecommerce sites.
Marketplaces include Tokopedia, Lazada, Bukalapak, Matahari Mall, and BliBli.
