With high-valuation startups like Go-Jek and Traveloka stealing most of the headlines lately, what about the next generation of tech and business innovators who are just getting started?
Here’s a look at five tech ventures who’ve cleared the first hurdle.
They’ve completed an incubation program – in this case Indigo, the startup incubator run by Indonesia’s largest telco, Telkomsel. All five startups are from the incubator’s first batch in 2016.
They have since managed to secure follow-on funding from angels and VCs – though program manager Nicko Widjaja didn’t reveal how much and from whom.
Minutes Barber
Minutes Barber is a mobile app that allows you to instantly book a barbershop appointment around Jakarta. It has expanded to include spas and salons.
Trax Center
Trax Center is an unusual idea for the security-conscious. It links a GPS device with a mobile app to create a security system for your vehicle. The app allows you to get full information about your vehicle’s status and even to remotely turn the engine on and off.
Kartoo
Kartoo is a mobile app that uses your debit or credit card information to let you know about relevant deals around you.
Sonar
This startup has developed a suite of social media monitoring tools. It’s subscription-based and targets mostly corporate clients. Sonar already has offices in Jakarta and Manila, preparing it for further regional expansion.
Zelos
Zelos is a job matchmaking platform that aims to connect fresh grads with small and medium-sized companies for part- or full-time jobs.
After graduating from Indigo, this startup jumped right into another mentorship program: Australian telco Telstra’s Muru-D accelerator in Singapore. As part of the program, Zelos received seed funding of about US$28,700. It’s currently undergoing a site makeover.
