Thanks to all of you, Tech in Asia Tokyo 2016 was a rousing success – gathering 496 startups, 166 corporations, 163 investors and more in a massive display of new and innovative technology in our region. This September 27 & 28, we’ll be back – bigger and better – for our fourth edition of Tech in Asia Tokyo at Bellesalle Shibuya Garden.
We’re bringing back everything you loved, but with a twist. Here are four exciting changes we have lined up for you.
1. Refreshed content format
While we know that many of you enjoyed the multi-stage format last year, we wanted to enhance your conference experience further by having content sessions that foster greater engagement between speakers and attendees. We went back to our drawing board, interviewed the community and finally came with the Startup Strategy Workshop.
These interactive workshops are led by industry experts in the region. They will cover the various practical aspects of running a tech startup such as marketing, branding and UX. At the end of the workshops, you’ll be equipped with new skills to grow sales and your business.
2. More time for you at Speed Dating
“Speed dating time is too short!” is one of the most common pieces of feedback we receive from startup attendees. Well, we heard you loud and clear, and this summer we made it a priority to work out a solution. Instead of the usual 5 minutes limit at Speed Dating, for the first time, we’ll be extending it to 7 minutes (5 minutes pitch + 2 minutes Q&A). This will apply to all future Speed Dating sessions at our Singapore and Jakarta conferences as well!
On top of this, we’ll also be sending all participating Speed Dating startups a comprehensive pitch guide. We hope that these new changes can help you better convey your idea across and impress your future investors.
How to participate?
You need to have a Startup Pass or a Bootstrap Alley exhibitor pass to be eligible for Speed Dating. You should also have a working prototype ready.
3. Change to our startup exhibition criteria
Previously, only startups with less than US$1.5 million in external funds were allowed to participate in Bootstrap Alley. Now, we are opening up this opportunity to later-stage startups from both Japan and overseas by increasing the funding limit to US$3 million.
Exhibiting startups this year will range from young, emerging startups to those that are more mature and developed. If you fall into any of these categories and haven’t had the chance to showcase your innovation in front of the Asia tech community, you can now do so at Tech in Asia Tokyo 2017!
Note: This change only applies to Tech in Asia Tokyo 2017.
How to participate?
Register your startup on our website by tomorrow, 7 July, 2359hrs (GMT +9) to enjoy a 25 percent early bird discount off your startup exhibitor booth package (USD297.75 post-discount).
The package comes with a one-day booth, two exhibitor passes, as well as the chance to participate in Startup-Investor Speed Dating.
4. Pitch your startup on social media
The highlight of our conference is undoubtedly the Arena pitch battle. This year, startups have the chance to appear in Arena through our all-new Facebook video pitch competition.
How it works: Tech in Asia Japan will hold a video interview with you. It’ll then be uploaded onto Facebook, and the community will pick a winner with a special voting tool on Facebook. The winner receives an invite to pitch at Arena and a free booth at the conference. More details on how to pitch your startup via this channel will be made known in due course.
Currently, this competition is only for startups headquartered and operating in Japan. International startups, don’t worry! We may have something for you in the future, so stay tuned.
How to participate?
In order to qualify, your startup needs to have a working prototype, less than USD3 million in external funding and must be based in Japan. Interested parties can email to japan@techinasia.com for more information.
