In just six months, China’s Didi doubles daily rides to 20m

Didi Chuxing, China’s top ride-hailing app, was already far and away the biggest in the world back in March when it was doing 10 million rides per day. But now the massive startup is clocking 20 million rides on average each day, said Jean Liu yesterday.

Speaking at WSJDLive in California, Jean also revealed that Didi is on an annual run rate of US$20 billion in gross bookings from all its app-based transportation services, which span 400 Chinese cities.

She also dropped the bombshell that Didi – which a couple months back acquired Uber’s China wing – is set to venture beyond mainland China for the first time. “We intend to be global,” Jean revealed. “We aspire to be a global company.”

That could be awkward: Uber is, thanks to the China deal, Didi’s single largest shareholder.
